S3 Campus Reporter (Group 1 schools only)
Half day campus based event (usually 9.30-12.00) normally held at the University of Edinburgh or Heriot Watt University where pupils explore university accompanied by a university student. Pupils use hand-held video cameras to create a short film clip which will form part of a news programme. This event provides an early introduction to university and student life. Teachers to be present to supervise. Offer to able pupils.
S3 Workshop
This is a fast-moving workshop for S3 pupils using interactive technology. Different student stories are introduced on video, with pupils selecting how they think the story progresses at various points using wireless clickers. The intention is to highlight the various ways students access higher education and the different routes they can take to get there. For S3 students with the ability to sit Highers.
S4 Course, Qualifications and Careers workshop (Group 1 schools only)

Open to all pupils as school desires. Teachers to be present to supervise.

S5 Typical Student Week workshop (Group 1 schools only)

Open to potential and actual Higher pupils. Teachers to be present to supervise.
S5 Parents Information Evening

S6 Getting by on a Student Budget workshop (Group 1 schools only)
1 period. Delivered in school by LEAPS staff assisted by group of student volunteers. Pupils work through a case study assisted by a student volunteer. From the information supplied they have to find out what the case study student spends per week and also their sources of income to give them a more realistic picture of how students get by on a student budget. Informal discussion with student volunteers also helps to answer any questions they may have. Open to potential and actual Higher pupils. Teachers to be present to supervise.
S6 Summer School promotional presentation
1 period. Delivered in school by LEAPS staff to students who received a LEAPS 1:1 interview. DVD and data projector required.
S6 Conference for S6 students
The conference gives S6 students the chance to find out about what happens with their UCAS application AFTER they apply via UCAS and how they accept/reject offers, etc. It also gives them the opportunity to find out more about student life via our ‘Student Panel’. Last year’s event also included workshops on ‘Art interviews’ and ‘teaching interviews’ as well sessions on ‘living away from home’ and ‘student finance’. Similar sessions will be on offer this year. We will promote this event to pupils during the 1:1 interviews and as we will then have their contact details we will contact them directly by email to encourage them to book a place so there is no action required by Link Teachers.
S6 Art Portfolio Classes at ECA (and Art Portfolio Week for the Borders)
1 term of classes take place each year at the ECA in central Edinburgh from Sept-Dec. Sessions are free of charge and normally last for 2 hours (5pm to 7pm) with pupils attending on a Monday or Wednesday evening. The classes are delivered by teaching staff from ECA. Information about the LEAPS/ECA Portfolio Classes is sent out to the Head of Art in all schools at the start of each autumn term. LEAPS will notify Link Teachers to let them know that info has gone out. Interested students must complete an application form explaining why they would like to participate.
Summer School
7 week programme. 1st-year level work. S6 pupils should be discouraged from booking holidays during the summer school.
