Art Portfolio Classes with ECA

Working with our colleagues at Edinburgh College of Art we are able to offer portfolio preparation classes, free of charge, to  LEAPS eligible pupils who are applying to art and design courses. The portfolio classes are designed to increase understanding of what it is like to study at art college, to help applicants to broaden their focus and to consider and apply new ideas and approaches to their work.

Two terms of classes take place each year at the ECA in central Edinburgh, in Autumn and then Spring term, each lasting for 10 weeks. Sessions normally last for 2 hours (5pm to 7pm) with pupils attending on a Monday or Wednesday evening. The classes are delivered by teaching staff from ECA.

Each session is designed to help students develop good analytical drawing skills and an individual approach to life drawing, still life, painting, collage and sketchbook work. Students are encouraged to work with a wide range of materials and a variety of drawing techniques.

Information about the LEAPS/ECA Portfolio Classes is sent out to link teachers in schools at the start of each autumn term. Interested students must complete an application form explaining why they would like to participate.

For further information about the Portfolio Classes contact Alison Train in the LEAPS Office on 0131 650 4676.
