Activities

To find out more about the different activities LEAPS offers (both in and out of school), please use our activity selector below. We are always developing the LEAPS programme, so do remember to check back for details of new events.

Remember, the LEAPS team is available all year round to offer information, advice and guidance about higher education to LEAPS-eligible students and parents and carers, so if you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact us.

S3 On-Campus

This half-day event provides an early introduction to university and student life. You will visit a university and, in a group, explore the university campus (the building and facilities) with a university student, our ‘uni experts’. Working in a team, you will complete fieldwork on a particular topic, collecting research and images, which you will then use to create a report ‘film’ on Adobe Spark. We can share the ‘film’ with your school after the event.

This event usually takes place between February and April.

Focusing on a timeline, you are advised of opportunities to collect information to make an informed decision about post-school higher education options and are introduced to the LEAPS S5Hub – our online resource for S5 students.

This presentation takes place in August or between November and February.

S5 LEAPS Activities - Forth Valley

Subject to funding confirmation, LEAPS hopes to begin working with an additional fourteen schools from the Forth Valley area during the 2019-2020 school year. (Find further details of these schools here.)

We anticipate initially working with S5 students in these schools who match any of the LEAPS eligibility criteria. Our programme of delivery in these schools for the 2019-2020 school year is to be confirmed and discussions with these schools will take place throughout the year. We would hope to fully integrate these schools into the LEAPS programme from the 2020-2021 school year. Please check back for updates.

S5 Conference

The S5 Conference is a campus-based event designed to help you take steps towards higher education. It is the chance to collect information and advice about future courses (our exhibition), what you need to get in (entry requirements), how best to prepare (what you need to do), meet current university students (find out what student life is like) and chat to staff from local universities and colleges (friendly people there to help you!)

The Conference is delivered by LEAPS staff, university students and colleagues from partner organisations, higher education institutions and related agencies.

The S5 Conference takes place in March.
