S5 Conference

Who is this event for?

If you are in S5 and aiming for university or college, this event is for you. The LEAPS S5 Conference will provide you with information and advice to help you make the right decisions about your future studies. It is open to S5 students from LEAPS Group 1 schools as well as students from LEAPS Group 2 schools who match any of the LEAPS Eligibility Criteria. If you are unsure whether you are entitled to attend, please contact us.

(LEAPS S5 Parents' Information Evening: we also have an event for your parents and carers which takes place the week following the LEAPS S5 Conference. They can find out more and register for the LEAPS S5 Parents' Information Evening here.)

When is it taking place?

The LEAPS S5 Conference is taking place on Wednesday 21 March, 2018, 5-8pm
We have scheduled the LEAPS S5 Conference to take place in March so that the information you collect will help you with S6 subject selection, as well as the early planning you might need to undertake ahead of making a college or university application. Registration will open at 5pm with the event formally commencing at 5.30pm. The event will end at 8pm. As this is an evening event, some refreshments will be provided.

What will be happening?

The LEAPS S5 Conference will be made up of a series of valuable presentations and workshops, as well as giving you the chance to speak with higher education staff and students. Watch the film clip above to get a flavour of the event!

Workshop: Strategies for selecting your course and making an effective application
In this workshop we'll encourage you to think about how to devise a strategy for choosing your ideal course and place of study. We'll also look at the types of extra-curricular or work-based experiences that will help to strengthen your application.

Higher Education Exhibition
You'll have the opportunity to put questions directly to representatives from local higher education institutions and collect prospectuses and other valuable information. The LEAPS team will be there to answer your questions about choosing and applying. In addition, there will be some optional lightning talks/activities about other opportunties you can get involved with to help prepare you for higher education.

Speaking informally to university students
Undergraduate students from a range of institutions and subject areas will be on hand to talk with you about their experiences of applying to, and then studying at university.

Updates: We will be updating this page in the run up to the event in March - including any changes in travel information - so please check back regularly!
